Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Liz Truss, the new British Prime Minister, have both said that they are worried about the Queen’s health.
Prime Minister Liz Truss recently met with the 96-year-old monarch. She wrote on Twitter, “The news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime will make the whole country very sad.”
Rishi Sunak tweeted about news from Buckingham Palace that came out today. I’m thinking about and praying for Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family.
Truss and Sunak were the top two candidates in the Conservative Party’s race for leader, which just ended. In the final round, Truss easily beat Sunak and won the position of party leader, making him the new prime minister.
Liz Truss won the election with 81,326 votes. Rishi Sunak got 60,399 votes.
Truss is the third woman to be in charge of the country.
A report from Reuters on Tuesday, which cited the Guardian, said that she wouldn’t give Rishi Sunak a job in her government. This happened after Sunak said he would turn down Truss’s offer of a job in the government.
